Reflexology is an ancient form of natural, holistic therapy based on the theory that there are points on the feet and hands that correspond to specific organs and systems in the body. Every reflex in your body has a relating reflex in your foot. Reflexology works by using pressure techniques on these reflex points in your feet. This pressure stimulates the relating reflex point in the body and clears congestion. The body then clears out this congestion making the person feel better. It's a very relaxing, non-invasive massage of the feet that balances the body and brings Mind, Body and Spirit into harmony.
I have had several 'mums to be' approach me as they have been over their due date and were aware that reflexology may help induce labour. With a combination of refelxology techniques, massage and my pre-labour massage oil, the clients I have given reflexology to have gone into labour naturally.
Reflexology can be used to treat a wide variety of problems ranging from skin care through to muscular aches, sprains, arthritis, lumbago, rheumatism, coughs, colds, circulatory problems, palpitations, stress, insomnia, PMS, Menopausal and many more. I know from receiving reflexology how beneficial it was to my health and I regularly do self- reflexology on my hands and feet.

Stephanie was past her due date with her first pregnancy and did not want to be induced. She had heard that reflexology was helpful in bringing about labour naturally. After two treatments Stephanie went into labour herself with no medical intervention.
Stephanie’s experience of reflexology.
I felt very relaxed and comfortable when Nicola gave the first treatment. My back was sore as well as my feet being sore and puffy so I was really looking forward to the experience. I found it was amazing how much the puffiness in my feet came down just after one treatment. Nicola played relaxing music and talked me through visualization for the birth. I found this to be of great help as I could imagine holding my baby in my arms and the thought of labour had not even crossed my mind. I would not hesitate in having reflexology for any future pregnancies. Since having my son Euan, I have taken him to Nicola’s baby massage class, Tranquil Tots, which both he and I enjoyed. I have continued to give Euan baby massage as part of his routine.
Aileen had been having aromatherapy back massages to help relieve tension in her shoulders. She was aware that I was training in reflexology and asked if this would be beneficial for the pain she was having in her feet. I advised that reflexology treats the whole body so she decided to go ahead with a course of treatments.
Aileen’s experience of reflexology.
I was a little worried to start with as I thought my feet would be sore when Nicola massaged and worked around the torn tendons at my instep. I could not believe how great it was just to even get the foot massage at the beginning of the treatment. I relaxed immediately. Even although some points in my feet felt a little tender to start with the more treatments I had the better my feet felt as well as my whole body relaxing and benefiting. It is a very relaxed, comfortable environment, with the relaxing music and the calming smells of essential oils. I would recommend reflexology to anyone.
